Description

Sunspots (20230716) - New umbra(!) spots eat up AR3372's pen(!)umbra

See this upscaled version for details!

I have never observed this before: Two new small and circular umbrae spontaneously appear within(!) the active region AR13372's penumbra! I know that bright so called umbral spots may appear in the deep dark umbra but I couldn't find a single mention to date of the opposite: deep dark umbrae spots spontaneously appearing within the grayish penumbra.

Seemingly, the new umbrae"eat up"  the former  penumbra!

Please zoom in and compare with my yesterday's image (20230715)!
